It's been a while since my last club update, so decided we needed to highlight some of the happenings of the club and take a look at some of the upcoming plans that many club members have for racing this spring.
In December about a dozen club members headed over to Pasco for the Cable Bridge 10k and
5k. Even with cold temps and rainy roads, many folks ran very well and managed to even bring home some hardwear.
The end of January saw the emergence of a new trail running race here in Walla Walla with the Beatdown on Bennington Trail race 5 miler put on by Blue Mountain Endurance. The race consisted of a tough trail course around Bennington lake, and included stiff climb early on the course that seperated the field a bit, as well as lots of fun single track running.
The race had a great turn out for it's first year, with a very competitive field that featured runners from the around the community and neighboring towns as well as strong showing from the Whitman Cross Country program runners, and some strong high school runners as well. Everyone seemed to have a good time and was certainly challenged and entertained by the course Below are some of the finishers in the top 5 overall.
The top runners also went home with some great prizes from Brooks running.
Javin busted out his "small" fire pit for the event!
The next event on the calendar for many local athletes will be the Walla Walla Dirty Duathlon which is now in it's third year of existance. After last year's mud fest, we'll have to wait and see what the weather holds for the course this year. You can still sign up online until Friday March 6, and then we'll also have weekend of race registration (either Saturday or on race day on Sunday) but will have a 10 dollar late fee if registering on race weekend. Here's a link to sign up if interested: Dirty Duathlon Sign up!
Or you can go the the BME Events tab at the top of this page and go check out the details on the event and sign up.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and able to get out and put in some miles this time of year. Don't forget we've got the Blue Mountain Endurance track workouts happening every other Wednesday right now, so a good chance to get in some run miles with others this time of year. We'll also be doing some cycling time trial practice sessions coming up in March on Wednesday's when not at the track, so stay tuned for that.
